The Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star is the flagship summer route, running daily from Anchorage to Fairbanks with stops in Wasilla, Talkeetna, and Denali National Park. Beginning in the morning at Anchorage’s downtown depot, just minutes from Creekwood Inn, travelers embark on a 12-hour journey across nearly 360 miles of wild terrain. Along the way, passengers enjoy views of the Knik River, Susitna River, Hurricane Gulch Bridge, Broad Pass, and on clear days, the towering peak of Denali itself.
Denali National Park spans six million acres of wilderness and is home to North America’s tallest peak. The Denali Depot welcomes train passengers right inside the park, where shuttles connect visitors to lodges, tours, and outdoor adventures. Once the only way to reach the park, the train still offers one of the most scenic and memorable arrivals. Popular activities include the Tundra Wilderness Bus Tour, sled-dog kennel visits, river rafting, flightseeing, and hiking.
The Denali Star operates mid-May through mid-September with daily service during the summer. Adventure Class provides economy-style comfort and large windows, while GoldStar adds glass-domed ceilings, outdoor decks, and included dining. Plan for at least an overnight stay in Denali to experience tours, wildlife excursions, and in-park activities. Guests at Creekwood Inn can get assistance with ticketing, scheduling, and tips for a seamless trip.
